Salad Days Skateboard Co. Part 3: Platipussed Out (page 1) (2) Last & not least is Platipus Skateboards, which is owned by Zarosh Eggleston. Based here in Monterey. Platipus has been around for over 20 years now, I believe. I really do hate to bring this story up, but I have too as this incident was the ultimate catalyst & the answer to me that, what I was doing here as far as starting Salad Days, was the right thing to do because don't forget; the major reason I started this company was to be an alternative to what was already out there. Another option that you could choose from out of the nil to none crowd. I've known Zarosh for a while & then at the same time, not at all. I used to ride for his brother's skate shop called 68 Skate back in the day that was in Pacific Grove. Eventually, that shop went out of business & I got sponsored by Bill's Wheels later on. I also ran into him one time in Sa Diego when he was helping to build Washington Street & had not really seen, nor heard from him at anytime afterwards; I eventually learned that he had started Platipus, because Bill's would have a few of their boards; now & what I did notice was that he was printing his own board graphics. So of course, after planning everything with Salad Days out & designing how I wanted the products to look, I went to ask Zarosh to see if he would print the boards for me. I didn't want to start with a large order, because I didn't really know what he could do and how much it would cost and once I did and from there do more in the future. It was a while ago, but from what I can recall, this was my experience in trying to get this done by Zarosh. So, after contacting him, he told me to come to his place, he showed me around & we talked. He asked me questions about my methods of already printing on boards with spray paint and stencils. Then he asked me what my overall intentions were for starting Salad Days & he also wondered if I would just be putting graphics on boards only, or what my overall agenda was? I told him that my overall agenda was to actually press and shape boards, which he replied back to me would be cool. Next, I explained to him the design I needed & told him it was a full pass of the Salinas COTS logo & he said he couldn't do it at that time and that he could only do half pass; which is basically the middle part of the board. If you understand the job I was asking him to do, it wasn't easy; but it also wasn't impossible. Money wasn't really a problem for me and I wanted it to be done. (page 1) (2)
