Salad Days Skateboard Co. Part 2: Go Big, Or Go Home (page 1) (2) As I was settling down back in the Central Coast, I came to the realization that, companies like Sugar do not really exist here. Don't get me wrong, sure there are small skateboard companies here, but as far as the locals go, you might find 1 or 2 locals on the team roster. Let me give you some examples. Let's start with the elephant in the room, Santa Cruz Skateboards & may God have mercy on my soul, as people nail me to the cross for saying this, because I am going to certainly upset some people with a truth that I'm about to reveal. Currently Santa Cruz's team roster stands that in the past 10 years the only local skateboarders added to the team roster has been Mikey Curtis & Cody Chapman. Everyone else, besides the people who have been on the team for forever aren't really from Santa Cruz, or the Tri-county area. While I feel I know why Santa Cruz is doing this, I also want to remind you the reader that their endeavor is worldwide domination a.k.a. profits. Therefore, names that nobody knows on the team who aren't profitable to a company that has a pretty large overhead; while at the same time, striving to maximize its profits for investors isn't smart business. I am sure they have no problem doing that, as the S dot alone carries that brand & do I have to mention The Screaming Hand? Plus they do hook up & employ numerous locals & non-locals. So don't misinterpret me, or think I am trying to discredit them, or hate; tons of rippers have benefited from them out there in skateboarding. I am not trying to throw them under the bus, or talk down on them. What I am merely trying to point out is what I noticed back in 2006 & what in my opinion is their catch 22. I can go more into this discussion regarding the details to this matter, you can talk to me anytime about it, many have & I'll give you my perspective on it as well. Which right now are reasons, I am not going to go into it as it would be a whole other blog topic, in itself. The point that I'm elaborating on is who they have on the team. Truthfully, what do I really know? I don't work, nor ride for Santa Cruz, so I could be wrong. I am only pointing out my perspective & I do observe what other people say & I do also have the right to my opinion. My point is this, in the past 10 years, the number of local skateboarders that Santa Cruz has turned pro, equals zero. The newest additions that I've seen who are local in that time, are Mikey Curtis & Cody Chapman. Now here is my deal with Santa Cruz. You want worldwide domination, yet you don't take care of your own backyard? I don't really see the logic in that, but that is why you are NHS Inc; on the stock market with stock holders & this company is shit. Demographically this is a tri-county area, you have Monterey County, San Benito County & Santa Cruz County. We are talking about a half a million people in total. Granted Curt & Coldy (When I originally wrote this Chatman was still on the team and now he is not, smart move Cody.) are sick as hell, but that's it? Nobody else out there is just as good or can be just as good? Doesn't seem logical to me, which is the point I am trying to make. (page 1) (2)
