002 Who Am I or, Who I Am? Part One: The Seed
(page 1) (2) (3) Let me start off by saying that; I am, not a writer. Nor, am I in the habit of writing, these are the first things I can say about self. Another thing I can say for certain about myself, is that I am a skateboarder. I am more of a street skater as far as the type of skateboarder that is out there. You may, or may not know this, but yes, there are "types" of skateboarders out there in the world. I figure the best possible way of telling you who I am, why I skateboard, or where I come from, or where I've been, or why I even started a skateboard company here in the 1st place; would be to start from the beginning. I wasn't born in Salinas, I also wasn't even born in Monterey county & even not in California. I was born at the U.S. Army General Hospital in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt, Germany. My parents were originally from Boston, Massachusetts & in 1976 my father was shipped out there while my mother was pregnant. In 1979, my father was then stationed here at the Fort Ord base, where he discharged & decided to live in Salinas. So technically, I have lived in Salinas since I was two years old. Later my parents would separate & I ended up leaving Salinas with my mother, where we ended up in a little town in East Texas called New Boston, where my mom's side of the family lived. At 8 years old on March 3rd, 1985 my mother passed away from natural causes. For two years my aunt, grandmother & cousins took care of me, until on my birthday my father showed up unexpectedly & flew me back with him to Salinas. One thing I can clearly remember the 1st months I was back here in California, was perceiving that I was living in a place that always had some kind of clout. California. It was almost like the theme song to The Beverly Hillbillies & it made me realize that I had to see as much of it as I could, before it was too late & I had to go back to New Boston. It wasn't until I started attending school here that I would meet other people & hang out at their houses. During this time in the 90's, video games were new & video games were huge. We didn't have "smart" phones so the rule in most households was being home, as the street lights came on; unless you called & checked in. (page 1) (2) (3)
