002 Who Am I or, Who I Am? Part Two: The Roots (1) (page 2) I was to find out in a few days that they lived down the street from the West L.A. Courthouse; one of the most notorious street spots in L.A. It took me forever to actually explore Los Angeles, but you could always find me at that place. The people & the pros & just the things seen there on a regular daily basis. I don't think kids today will ever really know the struggle that went on back then, the anticipated fear to get a trick there before the cops rolled on you if; they were coming that day. Who knows, maybe they do? You got to keep in mind, that back in those days, it wasn't legal to skate that place. I saw stings go down there with cops. Real shit. The whole place surrounded by cop cars, cops chasing skaters, both sides not giving a fuck. Some skaters making it out of the trap, some not. Wake up call to somebody who knew what it was, but when you saw it personally, it only affirmed everything. Meanwhile, you could go down the street to Venice Beach & skate there, all day, every day, no problem. It was all exactly what I was looking for. I have six years of stories from living down there & I'm pretty sure that I will touch on some of them in the future, but for now let me continue on. I would visit Salinas periodically during holidays & breaks when I lived in L.A. & was homesick. After graduating college; I moved back to Salinas in 2008. I tried to do the University thing in San Francisco however, the college I graduated from did such a great job at teaching me how to not make stupid moves; that I dropped out of it immediately. I'm pretty sure it was the message (by my teachers & others, a collective of informants) that college was a scam, kind of bullshit if you look at the bigger picture & think about it, especially if you can't afford it. However, there were other factors in play as well at that time; such as life & death moves. I've lost a lot of good friends, pets & family to death & to continue living life & function as you are going through a loss like that, isn't easy. To list all the names of those lost during those times...I would have to add about 6 more pages. So for right now, I'm going to take a moment of silence here, for them. God bless the dead.
